IRU News IRU News en UNECE report backs fully digital TIR The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) has released a significant report on the Iran-Turkey eTIR pilot project, endorsing the digitalisation of the TIR system and encouraging further contracting parties to adopt digital transport operations. Recently published under the UNECE’s GE1 documents, the report highlights the successes of the completed pilot project and encouraged Iran, Turkey – and other countries – to continue piloting digital TIR and to move towards full computerisation of the system. Enforcement of the new rules should be intelligence-based, utilising the expanded use of digital transport documents and the electronic exchange of information. The Council urged governments to adopt digital consignment notes by ratifying the additional protocol of the CMR Convention and to take the subsequent necessary steps to digitalise their logistics systems, to see significant benefits across the global business market. DRC introduced the Belt & Road Initiative’s six trade corridors and encouraged IRU to increase the visibility of TIR in the country, with the possibility of joint research initiatives and workshops.
