Member type:
Passenger transport, Associate non-corporate, Transport Association

The Associação Nacional dos Transportadores Rodoviários em Automóveis Ligeiros (ANTRAL) is a national taxi association representing companies providing road-based passenger transport services in vehicles for hire or reward. ANTRAL, which was established in 1975 and is headquartered in Lisbon, operates throughout Portugal with offices in Castelo Branco, Viseu, Porto, Coimbra, Évora and Faro.

ANTRAL’s mission is to safeguard its members’ interests and protect their corporate values. It plays a significant role in shaping legislation for the taxi sector in Portugal and in negotiating collective bargaining agreements. ANTRAL is also involved in drawing up pricing, tax, parking and licensing regulations.

ANTRAL works to improve the mobility and efficiency of the Portuguese transport system by providing professional training, medical examinations and insurance for companies licencing vehicles and issuing driving licences. Through its involvement in areas governing the economy, environment and transport, ANTRAL plays a pivotal role in promoting all public policies related to the economy, transport, environment, employment and road safety.

The association collaborates with the government and with city councils to ensure flexible door-to-door transport, driver safety, environmentally conscious policies and social support. The establishment of the ANTRAL Foundation and the Private Institution for Social Security has enabled it to part-fund a petrol station in Lisbon, whose proceeds have helped to construct a day-care centre and provide home support for taxicab professionals and their families.
