Industry demands digital transport documents

18 مايو 2017 Geneva

At its spring meeting, the IRU Goods Transport Council unanimously voiced the road transport industry’s readiness to use digital transport documents for economic and efficiency gains.

The Council urged governments to adopt digital consignment notes by ratifying the additional protocol of the CMR Convention and to take the subsequent necessary steps to digitalise their logistics systems, to see significant benefits across the global business market.

A dedicated special session at the meeting was focused on digital transport documents. IRU members FNTR, France, and ASTIC, Spain, the pioneers of recent national and cross-border pilot projects, shared their experiences. Highlighting the success of the pilots, they drew attention to the gains in efficiency, transparency and security, relative to the paper CMR.

Also involved in the special session was CANACAR, IRU member from Mexico, which conveyed its longstanding experience of the conclusive benefits of tried and tested digital transport documentation.
