Transcontinental integration and digitalisation top the agenda at Russia’s largest transport event

19 أبريل 2017 Moscow

IRU’s participation in the largest Russian transport industry event – TransRussia – highlights the latest trends, products and services, with new growth areas and the digital transformation of logistics operations taking centre stage.

Transport associations and IRU members from across Eurasia were hosted at the IRU stand during the 3-day event, held in Moscow. The interactive platform enabled members to jointly promote their services, specifically TIR’s “single transit document”, offering reliable and seamless road transport operations.

After the opening ceremony the official delegation, headed by the Russian Deputy Minister of Transport, Nikolay Asaul, visited IRU’s exhibit to learn about IRU services, such as eTIR: the digitised global customs transit system, and e-CMR: the digital consignment note.

Speaking to an audience of high level governmental officials and leading private sector representatives across the industry, Dmitry Cheltsov, who leads IRU’s work in Eurasia, put a spotlight on the role of road transport as the connector that knits all modes of transport together, from the start to the finish of every delivery chain.

Participating at the Transport and Logistics Conference, he remarked on the rise of competition and fast-paced change, maintaining the need for new growth areas and the geographic expansion of harmonised conventions such as TIR, as well as the digitalisation of logistics operations.

IRU also launched a discussion on the future efficiency of international road transport, ahead of new Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) documents entering into force, in particular, the new EAEU Customs Code and the main directions and stages of implementing a coordinated transport policy.

Moderating the session, Dmitry Cheltsov, stressed that more countries in Asia and Europe are prioritising trade and transport facilitation through harmonised UN instruments, which ultimately promote transcontinental economic integration.

The 22nd International Exhibition and Conference for Transport and Logistics Services and Technologies took place in Moscow from 18 – 20 April 2017.
