IRU discusses its EU transport policy priorities with French Minister Bussereau
|
An IRU Delegation today met with French Secretary of State in charge of Transport, Dominique Bussereau, who chairs the EU Transport Council of Ministers for the next six months, to discuss the IRU's transport priorities as well as those of the French Presidency. The fruitful exchange included the current fuel price crisis and possible solutions to be implemented at national, EU, global and Industry level, as well as the Eurovignette Directive and the internalisation of external costs. The IRU and Mr. Bussereau’s cabinet will pursue the positive dialogue with the view to effectively address the mutual priority issues.

US Chamber of Commerce recommends the TIR Convention
|
|
|
In a report recently released by the US Chamber of commerce on " Balancing Security and Trade Facilitation in the 21st Century Global Supply Chain...", the TIR Convention is considered the most effective and preferred alternative mechanism to implement the WCO SAFE Framework of Standards. “It is important to note that one third of the U.S. economy is dependent on international trade. Balancing trade with security is one of society’s most complex and important challenges,” said Donohue, President of the US Chamber of Commerce. “The WCO SAFE Framework, implemented by an enhanced TIR Convention, could strike the right balance, ensuring greater economic opportunity all over the world.”

IRU fosters transport facilitation and training in Mongolia
|
An IRU Delegation today met with representatives from the National Security Council of Mongolia and the Permanent Mission of Mongolia to the United Nations, to discuss how to implement the TIR Convention in Mongolia to further facilitate and develop road transport in the country. IRU Secretary General, Martin Marmy, explained, “There are no landlocked countries for road transport, provided appropriate facilitation measures are put in place. This is also true for Mongolia, which should develop the movement of goods and people by road with its neighbouring countries, in order to reap the benefits of globalisation.”

Vladimir Florea re-elected CLCEI President
|
The IRU’s Liaison Committee to the CIS region (CLCEI) today re-elected Vladimir Florea, from the International Association of Road Hauliers of Moldova (AITA) as CLCEI President for the term 2008-09.
Members of the CLCEI also elected Kakhramon Sydiknazarov from Association of International Road Carriers of Uzbekistan (AIRCUZ) and Leonid Kostyuchenko from the Association of International Road Carriers of Ukraine (ASMAP UA) as Vice Presidents.
