IRU World Congress gathers industry and government leaders from around the world
The 30th IRU World Congress in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, brings together some 1500 road transport company CEOs and government decision-makers from 70 countries to examine road transport's vital role in economic development, social progress and environmental protection.
Dubai - The 30th IRU World Congress opens today in partnership with the IRU's UAE Member Association, the International Automobile and Touring Club, and the Ministry of Communications of the UAE. The presence of some 1 500 road transport company CEOs and government decision-makers from 70 countries from the five continents underlines the growing importance of road transport in all economics worldwide. The staging of this large IRU gathering in Dubai highlights the IRU's involvement in the Middle East and Asia while the participation of so many senior figures from the UAE and 20 other governments indicates the high level of official support for the IRU's activities.
The UAE's role as an international trade and transport platform and its affinity to develop road transport and related services is reflected in the Congress theme, "Road Transport, the Vital Link to Progress!" This will be examined in three interactive panel sessions, one of which will look at road transport - the link to mobility, the second at road transport - the link to effective logistics and the third at road transport - the link to sustainable progress.
These sessions will feature top industry and government leaders providing thought-provoking presentations that should inspire transport operators with examples of how best road transport practices and services can help society to progress while allowing them to increase their efficiency and profitability. The Congress moderator, internationally renowned TV news anchor John Defterios, will help open up the discussion to include questions and observations from the Congress audience; a dynamic and constructive approach that has generated lively debate in previous IRU congresses. The sessions will be completed by a visit to the world's tenth largest port facility, the Jebel Ali Port and Free Trade Zone.
