Geneva, March 09, 2010 CIT President and Vice-Presidents re-appointed
The IRU International Technical Commission (CIT) today re-appointed President Mikhail Nizov from the IRU Russian Member Association, Association of International Road Carriers (ASMAP), for the 2010-2012 term of office. Members of the CIT also re-appointed Vice President Yves Mannaerts, from the IRU Belgian Member, Fédération Belge des Exploitants d’Autobus et d’Autocars et des Organisateurs de Voyages (FBAA) and Mårten Johansson from the Swedish Association of Road Haulage Companies, Sveriges Åkeriföretag (SÅ).

On the occasion of the International Customs Day on 27 January 2010, the World Customs Organization (WCO) awarded Leonid Kostyuchenko, President of the IRU Member, the Association of International Road Carriers of Ukraine (AsMAP UA) with the WCO Certificate of Merit for his contribution to developing the cooperation between the road transport industry and Customs authorities of Ukraine. Mr Kostyunchenko is also a member of the IRU Presidential Executive and Vice President of the IRU Euro-Asia Liaison Committee.

Washington, March 05, 2010 IRU Delegation meets with High Level Officials in Washington D.C.
  An IRU Delegation visited Washington D.C. to discuss with senior officials in the US Administration, Congress and Senate how to strengthen cooperation in the further development of road transport corridors to Afghanistan. Representatives from the National Security Council, Office of US Trade Representative, Departments of State, Commerce and Defence, the World Bank and research centres showed a particular interest in the IRU plans to develop a “model highway section” on the Silk Road’s routes.
New York, March 03, 2010 IRU allocates funds to UN Decade of Action for Road Safety
  The International Road Transport Union (IRU) commits major funds in support of the UN Decade of Road Safety, to improve commercial road transport safety.
Brussels, March 03, 2010 Alexander Sakkers elected CLTM President
The IRU Goods Transport Liaison Committee (CLTM) to the European Union today elected Alexander Sakkers from Transport en Logistiek Nederland (TLN) as CLTM President for the mandate 2010-2012. Members from the CLTM also re-elected Florence Berthelot from the French Road Hauliers Association FNTR (Fédération Nationale des Transports Routiers) and Christian Labrot from the German Logistics Association BWVL (Bundesverband Wirtschaft, Verkehr und Logistik) as Vice-Presidents.

Brussels, March 02, 2010 Annual IRU Spring Cocktail: cooperation is key to achieve tangible results

The annual IRU Spring Cocktail today brought together over 200 leading transport and travel representatives from the EU political, business and industry spheres, including MEPs, EU Commission officials, trade associations, manufacturers, transport operators, NGOs, as well as IRU Member Associations.

Addressing the guests, IRU President Janusz Lacny emphasised the need for close cooperation between the road transport Industry and European institutions in order to effectively address the major policy issues facing the new transport commissioner and EC Vice President, Siim Kallas, and the newly named DG Mobility and Transport (DG MOVE) .

DG MOVE Deputy Director General, Zoltan Kazatsay, and the Deputy Head of Siim Kallas’ Cabinet, Keir Fitch, both agreed that cooperation is the key and the only way forward to expedite economic recovery and prepare for the future, notably when drafting the new EU transport White Paper.
