Obituary

Geneva - The IRU Secretariat General and the IRU members have the sad duty to inform of the death, on 26 April 2008, of Dr Winfried Röckmann, General Delegate of the IRU Permanent Delegation to the European Union in Brussels, Belgium, from 1973 to 2003.

After completing his studies in Germany as Doctor in Economics, Dr Röckmann joined the IRU in 1973 with the mandate to create and lead, as General Delegate, the newly created Permanent Delegation as well as the IRU Liaison Committees to the European Union. Until his retirement during the celebration of the 30th Anniversary of his achievements just five years ago, he promoted the interests of the road transport industry before the European institutions.

Taking into account the key role played by Dr Röckmann during his 30 years within the IRU, the EU bodies and the international IRU network of Members, all his friends will remember him as a truly dedicated professional and warm friend in all his working relations.

His IRU colleagues, members and friends present their condolences to his wife Monique and to his daughter and son.
