IRU names new EU General Delegate
Geneva - The International Road Transport Union (IRU) announced to its General Assembly that Michael Nielsen will head the IRU’s Permanent Delegation to the European Union starting in December 2007 with the intent of becoming fully operational as from 1 January 2008
Mr. Nielsen is currently the Director of Development & Deployment at ERTICO – ITS Europe, working very closely with the European Commission and the European Parliament as well as with major international organisations, industrial companies, public authorities, associations, systems integrators and transport companies. He is responsible for the development and implementation of a large portfolio of information and communication technology (ICT) in the transport sector.
Mr. Nielsen started his career in his native Denmark working as a researcher on quality in transport for the Traffic Research Group at the University of Aalborg. He then worked as a Manager in the Brussels office of Nordic Transport Development undertaking the responsibility of various freight and fleet management, logistics and ICT initiatives in close cooperation with the European Commission. He then took a position as Director at Traffic Supervision Systems in Denmark, a company specialised in Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) usage in the transport sector.
Mr. Nielsen, 40 years old, has a Masters degree in Civil Engineering, is married and has two children.
