The IRU is pleased to announce that the IRU TIR Electronic Pre-Declaration (IRU TIR-EPD) will be operational in Romania as from 2 March 2010, as a result of the successful partnership established between the Romanian Customs Authorities and the IRU. TIR Carnet Holders will thus have the possibility to lodge, free of charge, their electronic pre-declarations via the web–based IRU TIR-EPD application for all TIR transports entering the European Union through the territory of Romania and for all TIR transports originating in Romania.

IRU Head of TIR Department, Marek Retelski, explains: “Taking into account the strategic location of Romania as an external border of the European Union, this successful deployment will greatly contribute to further facilitate TIR transports in the region, in full compliance with the EU NCTS-TIR regulation, without any additional cost.”

To date, 9 EU Member States are now covered by the IRU TIR-EPD and the IRU will continue its partnership with Customs Authorities to further extend the scope of its application.

IRU Academy distance learning modules intended to facilitate the use of the IRU TIR-EPD application by TIR Carnet Holders and TIR Associations are now available in English. Russian, French and Turkish versions of these modules will follow shortly.
