IRU Passenger Transport Council
Objectives:
- Define IRU policy towards national and international bodies aimed at the promotion of professional passenger transport;
- Protect the interests of bus, coach and taxi operators;
- Monitor other branches of transport and tourism with which road transport operators maintain professional and commercial relations. Chief among them are representatives of travel agents (UFTAA) and tour operators (ETOA), hotel sector (IH&RA) and of public transport (UITP).
Working progamme:
- Monitoring the evolution of policy, regulatory provisions and activities of the public sector in regular passenger transport to ensure equal treatment and preserve the interests of the private sector;
- Promoting coach tourism and the major advantages it provides to the public in terms of quality, safety and diversity as well as facilitating the movement and parking at tourist sites and cities;
- Promoting and developing the international classification of touring coaches;
- Intensifying relations with the partners of road transport operators (travel agents, hoteliers, tour operators, public transport operators);
- Bringing IRU positions and actions to the attention of the competent international organisations: UN, EU Institutions, ECMT, WTO, etc.;
- Facilitating the integration of CEEC bus and coach operators in the European market, through the harmonisation of operating conditions, in particular to facilitate EU Enlargement in May;
- Take proactive steps to achieve the equal fiscal treatment of all passenger transport modes.
- Continue initiatives to support sustainable development, including road safety, by obtaining favourable technical standards for buses and coaches.
