Objective

The aim of the IRU Passenger Transport Council (CTP) is to define and attain the IRU transport policy objectives laid down in Article 2 of the IRU Constitution, with a view to promoting and developing road passenger transport nationally and internationally and safeguarding the industry’s vested interests.

In the context of the above general objective, the CTP's priorities are:

  • to contribute to the facilitation of passenger transport by bus, coach and taxi, by eliminating barriers and difficulties hindering the progress of the industry, as well as to oppose any discriminatory measures against this mode of transport;
  • to promote the economic, social and environmental objectives of sustainable development in the passenger transport sector.

Working programme

  • Monitor and analyse the development of the market, legislative and political framework for professional passenger transport by bus, coach and taxi. Make representations, in close cooperation and strict coordination with Member Associations, to national governments and international governmental and non-governmental organisations, such as the UN, the World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO), ITF (former ECMT), EU institutions and bodies, UITP, ETAG, ECTAA, IH&RA, UFTAA, ETOA and, where appropriate, ETF.
  • Define specific actions with a view to:
    • promoting the interests of the profession and its image;
    • developing strategies which allow the facilitation and improvement of the services offered by taxis, buses and coaches and make them known to stakeholders from the public and private sector and the wider public;
    • promoting co-operation and partnership with other sectors related to passenger transport, specifically public transport;
    • exchanging information on best practices between Members in the field of regular and occasional transport by bus and coach, as well as on any specific issues of concern for taxi operators.
  • Monitor and co-ordinate the work of the "Taxis and Hire-Cars with Driver" Group.
