Objectives:
Permanent and long term Working Programme:
- Inform the IRU bodies and members of the development and the operating conditions of combined rail/road and multimodal transport.
- Draw up and define the IRU policy with regard to combined and multimodal transport.
- Analyse the cost/benefit ratio of development projects for combined rail/road and multimodal transport used by road transport operators.
- Develop and follow up proposals concerning combined transport emanating from the UNECE (AGTC), the ECMT, the EU and other international bodies.
- Promote combined transport, with partners, as well as various projects funded by the EU and influence EU projects by participating in consultative meetings.
- Strive for quality improvements of combined transport by promoting horizontal transfer techniques.
Assist members by means of analyses and recommendations concerning new techniques and standardisation.
Working Programme for 2008
- Analyse security measures for combined transport terminals regarding their impact on combined transport solutions.
- Study the influence of public policy on the development of intermodal terminals.
- Follow, analyse and supply information on the revision of the UN AGTC Agreement.
- Investigate the use of tracking and tracing in combined transport (MITRA – Project)
