Objective
Monitor, analyse and make proposals to the various international bodies concerning the regulation of the transportation of dangerous goods. Inform IRU Members on the content of regulations and of any modifications. Propose strategies for the transportation of dangerous goods. Influence the Model Regulations (Orange book), the ADR Convention and Community regulations governing the transportation of dangerous goods.
Working programme
- Inform IRU Members on the content of international regulations for the transportation of dangerous goods.
- Develop and analyse proposals amending the ADR Convention. Monitor, influence and participate in UN working group meetings on the transport of dangerous goods (WP 15) and joint RID/ADR/AND meetings.
- Analyse and comment on proposals from the European Commission and participate in the TDG meetings (Transport of Dangerous Goods) of DG TREN.
- Develop co-operation with other international organisations such as FIATA, CEFIC, SQAS, ECTA, OICA and ACEA to strengthen the influence of the private sector on regulators. Jointly organise seminars and conferences.
- Elaborate and analyse technical proposals to improve operations, productivity, geographical overage, road safety, the conservation of natural resources, and reduce their impact on roads, noise, emissions and energy consumption.
- Promote in cooperation with the UNECE, IRU GEMD Members and the IRU Academy the geographical extension of the ADR Convention.
- Coordinate and promote the activities of the IRU Academy.
