Objectives:
- Serve the interests of professional road hauliers in the European Union, both for hire or reward and own-account;
- Steer EU legislation so that goods transport operations can be carried out efficiently and under fair and harmonised competitive conditions;
- React in the interest of the road haulage industry to initiatives by EU institutions.
Working programme:
- Influencing developments in the area of fiscal and road user charges, and take initiatives to avoid increases at the European level of vehicle taxes, fuel excise duties and administrative costs of road user charges;
- Promoting and developing the EU Social Dialogue in the road transport sector; to influence EU social regulations on driving and resting times, in particular to safeguard flexibility for all road transport and to promote appropriate recording systems on monitoring driving and resting hours;
- Taking pro-active initiatives in favour of harmonised standards (e.g. environmental, social, safety and technical standards) which are not only enforceable but also ensure a non-discriminatory treatment of road transport;
- Pursue solutions to structural problems in the EU road freight sector, including tougher criteria governing access to the profession, introduction of co-responsibility of purchasers of road transport services, plus price revision clauses in standard contracts.
