Objectives:
- Monitor and analyse developments in social conditions, relevant regulations and means of control in the road transport sector at international level;
- Propose policies in these fields, to be asserted by the IRU in relation to the competent national and international bodies, in co-ordination with the policy pursued by the IRU bodies responsible for EU social matters.
Working Programme:
- Monitor the EU's decisions in the field of social regulations, in particular relating to working time, and assess their foreseeable impact in other European countries;
- Support the policy adopted in this respect by the IRU bodies responsible for EU social matters and co-ordinate this policy at the wider European level;
- Ensure the harmonisation of the UN AETR Agreement with EU regulations and its uniform application throughout Europe, including in domestic transport (harmonisation of national legislation);
- Gradually introduce the new (EU) electronic control devices in a harmonised fashion at European level;
- Address the competent intergovernmental bodies - including the UN and the ILO - to assert the IRU's policy in the above-mentioned fields;
- Elicit the desirable level of co-operation with international trade unions.
