Standard contracts for goods carriers
So as to internationally standardise conditions of carriage for international road haulage, the CAJ has developed several standard contracts to facilitate:
- commercial agreements between carriers and their customers, or
- medium or long-term relations between business partners.
As with passenger transport, it should be explained that, contrary to international conventions and rules in force at national (or supranational in certain customs unions) level, which are mandatory for those subject to them, the IRU’s legal instruments developed for the benefit of the road transport industry (standard contracts, conditions of carriage, charters, etc.) are optional. Interested parties must explicitly refer to them in their own contract to make them applicable and remain free to go beyond the IRU legal instruments to which they refer.
The standard contracts in question are the following:
- Outline transport Convention and General conditions of international carriage of goods by road
- Outline Convention for Transport and Logistic services and General conditions for international carriage of goods by road and logistic services
- Standard Agreement for the Exchange of Computerised Data between commercial partners in the framework of international road haulage.
These standard contracts can be found here.
