Enforcement of regulations, controls and sanctions must be harmonised
The 7th Symposium of Lawyers, Members of the IRU Legal Assistance Network today gathered lawyers and road transport representatives from 25 countries to explore the diversity of controls and sanctions in the road transport of goods. The Symposium concluded that the harmonised implementation of a simple and transparent regulatory framework is a prerequisite to achieve a better understanding and more efficient enforcement of the rules applying to road transport. To attain this goal, priority must be given to simplifying, clarifying and above all improving the enforcement of existing rules rather than creating new ones.
A Resolution to this effect was adopted by participants to the Symposium and will be submitted to the IRU’s competent bodies for ratification during the 31st IRU World Congress on 15-16 May 2008, in Istanbul.
