Poland at Transcontinental Crossroads
"Warsaw, because of its geographic location at the crossroads of key transportation routes connecting the East with the West, is seen by the Polish Government as the appropriate place to make important decisions regarding the manner of conducting international policies in the sphere of transport.
We appreciate the role that the International Road Transport Union can play in this matter. "

The Reopening of the Silk Road - Driving Progress and Regional Stability
"Our dream is to create, with road transport, peace and prosperity not only in a handful of ports and port hinterlands, but in all the other regions. If it was possible to link these regions by transporting goods along the Silk Road 700 years ago, why would not it be possible today?"
Paul Laeremans, IRU President |

Twinning Trade and Road Transport Facilitation in Euro-Asian Transport Corridors
"Different problems should be solved on the Euro-Asian routes, for example security of transport. Another important issue is the facilitation of border crossings according to the international agreements and recommendations. All interested countries should become parties and apply international conventions concluded under the auspices of the UN Economic Commission for Europe."

Euro-Asian Goods Transport by Road - a Real Option
"While there aren’t really any goods being transported by road or rail through the vast Eurasia landmass right now, it could make commercial sense to do so for certain high-value, time-sensitive goods.."

" In the period from 2004 to 2006, the increase of road freight transport volumes between Siberia and European countries was higher (2004:+ 87%, 2005: +12%, 2006: +17%) than the average increase of traffic between Siberia and all foreign states (+26%, +11% and +2% respectively)."

Innovate in Euro-Asian Intermodal Logistic Solutions: from Traction to Value Added Services
"Due to the long distance between Turkey and European suppliers and the need to achieve a regular transit time and a robust material flow, it is not possible to tolerate irregular or fluctuating traffic, especially due to the delays at borders. Therefore, in order to stabilize traffic flow, intermodal road-rail transport has been chosen as the best solution for our traffic."

Security in Euro-Asian Road Transport: Attacks on International Drivers
"1 in 6 (or 17%) of interviewed drivers suffered an attack during the past 5 years. The findings of the ECMT-IRU report joins recent studies emerging from the European Union that seem to confirm a need for, among others, more consistent reporting of incidents by the drivers and a concerted initiative on the part of authorities at all levels to better measure and monitor attacks on drivers."
Mary Crass, Principal Administrator, International Transport Forum |

"Recent years have witnessed a significant growth in the demand of road transportation services, along with the prominent development of domestic economy and international trade in China. In addition, 3rd party logistics providers e.g. COSCO Logistics enter into the business under the urgent requirement from clients to provide integrated services covering warehousing, distribution, road transportation, freight forwarding, etc."

"For the transport operator, there are very unfortunately many factors decreasing operational profitability. These factors and other losses in international road transport are complemented by difficulties to receive visas for drivers and the slow treatment of vehicles at borders. This results in a too high proportion of empty runs. In addition, spare parts and fuel costs are increasing.."

Declaration of the Ministerial Session
"We are going to develop all modes of transport because only a balanced transport system can rise to the challenges which are a consequence of transcontinental trade exchange. Road transport is an important part of a balanced transport system. It is an efficient and flexible tool for transcontinental transport operations, particularly the transport of valuable and time-sensitive goods. All the premises have led us to determine the tasks that we have to do so as to make the Silk Road come true."
M. Jerzy Polaczek, Minister of Transport, Poland

Benefit from UN Legal Instruments to Facilitate and Secure International Road Transport; Conclusions and Declaration of the 4th IRU Euro-Asian Road
"Instead of reinventing the wheel in the form of new international agreements on road transport, we consider the existing set of rules as useful and their implementation as unavoidable and even desirable for ensuring the future sustainable development of the road transport industry on a free market under regulated basic conditions."

"The re-establishment of ancient commercial routes, which worked as communication links between peoples in the past, is nowadays easier thanks to the fast rhythm of technology development and the close economic connections between continents. For countries like Portugal, the peripheral geographic position has always been a crucial impetus to find appropriate solutions, therefore, we want to strengthen relations with the new EU adherent countries in order to share experiences and make trade easier."
