At the time of the symposium, various speakers, specialists of a high level, spoke on the CMR, notably: |

Mrs. Marie-Noëlle Poirier, in charge of economic affairs in the Transport Division of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, demonstrated to what extent the CMR was a pillar of international goods transport by road; |

Professor Jacques Putzeys of UNIDROIT and honorary member of the IRU explained how the CMR had to adapt to the electronic era, identifying, among other things, the needs of today’s operators to whom the CMR Convention should respond in a satisfactory manner at international level (introduction of an electronic waybill); |

Mr. Waldemar Czapski, Head of Legal Affairs of the IRU, presented in a detailed manner how the CMR Convention should be applied and interpreted in light of international law, in particular in connection with the Vienna Convention on the law of treaties and international jurisprudence on the matter; |

Professor Philippe Delebecque of the University of Paris-I detailed the application of the CMR to combined and intermodal transports in the CMR Convention, in referring to the window of application of the Convention to transportation of goods by sea; |

Mr. Ghislain de Monteymar, magistrate of the French “Cour de Cassation”, as well as Mr. Malcom Clarke, Professor at the University of Cambridge, represented, respectively, the cases of French and British jurisprudence on the theme, “the national judges opposite the silence of the CMR”. |
