Yury Soukhin,
ASMAP President
Development of new transport corridors across the
Euro-Asian continent is becoming a good tradition. Last year, the ASMAP in
conjunction with the IRU and the Transport Ministry of the Russian Federation
organized and conducted the first transcontinental caravan Lisbon-Vladivostok
from the Atlantic to the Pacific.
The participants and their vehicles covered a
distance of more than 30 thousand kilometers. We are glad to passover the baton
to the organizers of this new,no less impressive project. The present Caravan
serves as a vivid demonstration of the opportunities offered by road transport
of goods from the rapidly developing Asia-Pacific region to Europe.
This is yet another indication that road
transport is capable of operating on its own in freight deliveries from «door to
door».The ASMAP attaches great importance to the development of the transport
services market.
I am confident that the use of the transport
potential which this Caravan demonstrates will open up new opportunities for the
development of international road transport operations and serve the interests
of all countries of Europe and Asia.
The Association of
International Road Transport Carriers (ASMAP)
The Association of International
RoadTransport Carriers (ASMAP) was formed in 1974, it unites more than 3000
Russianenterprises and organizations engaged inpassenger and freight carriage on
interna-tional lines, and has its branches andoffices in all federal regions of
Russia.
The ASMAP is a member of:
- The International Road Transport Union(IRU),
representing road transport car-riers from 70 countries across the world;
- The International Federation of
FreightForwarders Associations (FIATA).
The ASMAP participates in the work of the
transport bodies of the UN EconomicCommission for Europe, and maintains contacts
with national carriers' associations in all countries. The ASMAP acts as the
association guaranteeing the operation of the TIR system on the territory of
Russia. The IRU-CIS Liaison Committee was set up with ASMAP participation.
