Your Excellency , Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am very pleased to be in Tehran to attend this second Euro-Asian Conference and have the opportunity to share with you a few thoughts about the contribution of transport to economic progress, especially in the poorest countries.

In my presentation, at first I will review key results of research on that issue

Then, I will widen the discussion of the impact of transport on trade

Finally, I will shortly indicate specific initiatives from World Bank to improve transport efficiency and facilitate trade
