Eurochallenge Award 2003Background In 1991, the "Eurochallenge Award"™ for public transport by bus and coach was created by the FBAA and the organisers of the "COACH & BUS" Exhibition in Kortrijk, now named "BUS WORLD". "The aim of the IRU Eurochallenge Award is to promote greater use of urban and interurban public transport by bus and coach through cost-effective innovative projects" Candidates The award is open to all bus or coach operators active in public transport, regardless of their public or private status, whether or not public subsidies are received. Candidates from all European countries are eligible. The Member Associations can first organise a pre-selection at the national level and forward subsequently a number of nominations to the IRU General Secretariat. Selection Criteria The project for examination by the jury must either have achieved an increase in the number of passengers or prove the number of passengers if a new route was created.
