Ladies and Gentlemen, dear IRU Associates, Customers, Transport Operators, Authorities: my warmest thanks to all of you for being here today.

As you probably know, IVECO was born in 1975 by the merging of 5 Companies in different European Countries: from that moment our growth has always been 'global'.

Nowadays we are present in more than 100 Countries all over the world: Central and Eastern European Countries, for instance, are of strategic importance to our business, and these figures, referring to the > 3,5 tons sector prove it:

  • more than 19% of the Market Share in Hungary

  • 24% in Slovakia

  • more than 32% in Croatia

  • 17% in Slovenia

  • more than 28% in Romania

  • and an overall Market Share of 20,8% in Central Europe in 2002 and about the same for the first trimester of 2003

In Hungary IVECO is present with 8 Dealerships, 1 Agent and 2 Sub-Dealers, providing an excellent territory coverage.

I am certain that the EU Enlargement will offer many opportunities both to the Candidate Countries and the EU Member States: with the stabilisation and the connection of Central and Eastern Europe, the European Union will find again an area of great strategic co-operation from an economical, cultural, and social point of view.

We can't allow ourselves not to be ready to seize these new opportunities: I am convinced that we shall start now, bearing in mind our objectives and trying to figure out the needs of tomorrow markets.

IVECO has been among the first Manufacturers to perceive the enormous potentiality that the Central and Eastern European Markets may offer, and our penetration in these areas confirms this, but we can't rest on our laurels, since competition will be tough.

On the contrary we shall keep on showing enthusiasm, dedication and determination in order to seize the challenges of global competition after the Enlargement.

But how?

Promoting at the best our brand and our products: STRALIS, winner of the Truck of the Year 2003 award, has been launched in the second semester of 2002 in the Central and Eastern European Countries meeting a good success, and new products are being launched in these very days: the new Euro Cargo line with a completely restyled cabin, and our new heavy vehicles Active Time and Active Day.

Looking for stable and reliable Partners: just take a look at these 2 snapshots of our Dealers CEFIN and LEVANTEX located here in Budapest to get the idea of the efficiency and the service offered. (the 2 pictures appears on the screen one after the other). Both of them represent not only excellency for the Central European Countries, but for Western Europe as well.

Being open to original co-operation forms: for instance with local body builders, offering tailor made solutions for every mission.

But I am not thinking of a one way Globalisation model: on the contrary we shall make the effort to analyse the peculiarity which each Country offers in order to optimise its opportunities: this is the only way to preserve the leadership IVECO has gained in these Countries.

I am sure that this conference will offer all Delegates a great opportunity to understand better these peculiarities and better analyse the opportunities and challenges that the Enlargement process implies.

But I will stop now, and let a short video I brought here from home describe you what IVECO is, and what we undertake around the world: I am sure these images will say more than a thousand words.
