Good evening ladies and gentlemen,

My name is Ishizashi, the Office Director, Road Transport Bureau, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport of Japan. I would first of all like to congratulate everyone connected with holding The 28th IRU World Congress here today in the city of Bucharest on such a large scale.

We can look with great appreciation at how hard IRU worked for the growth and expansion of the road transport industry worldwide and the important role it has played in supporting the various industries and people’s life styles throughout the world since IRU was founded in 1948.

The 29th World Congress is scheduled to be held in the city of Yokohama, Japan, in 2004, two years from now. I would like to take this opportunity to promise that we at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport of Japan, together with the Japan Trucking Association, will provide all-out support and assistance for all the people concerned to assure that the Congress will be fruitful and successful.
