Associate Member, bringing the IRU’s vision of a “Revitalised Silk
Road” a step closer to becoming reality.
- IRU
salutes its heroes
The IRU Grand Prix d’Honneur 2002 is awarded to Walter Lehmann and Bruno
Saba, both of whom helped save fellow road users from death, on the A1
motorway near Zürich and in the St Gotthard tunnel, Switzerland.
- Alpine
transit restrictions are costly neo-protectionism!
The IRU Goods Transport Council has unanimously called on the Austrian,
French and Swiss governments to end costly, neo-protectionist restrictions
on Alpine transit by HGVs. The Ecopoint system and the one-way
restrictions in the Mont Blanc and St Gotthard tunnels inflate transport
costs, decrease safety and increase environmental impact.
- IRU
expands information on waiting times at borders
The IRU today signs a Memorandum of Understanding with 12 Member
Associations in Central and Eastern Europe, intended to improve and extend
the flow of information on waiting times at borders. Facilitation of
international commerce, a major priority for the IRU, will help to
reducing such waiting times.
