IRU and UN-OHRLLS agree to reinforce cooperation

New York, April 4, 2012 IRU and UN-OHRLLS agree to reinforce cooperation

A delegation led by IRU Secretary General, Martin Marmy, and IRU Under-Secretary General, Igor Rounov, today met with the Chairman of the Group of Landlocked Developing Countries, H.E. Mr Saleumxay Kommasith, and representatives from the UN-OHRLLS* Secretariat on behalf of UN Under-Secretary General, Mr Cheick Sidi Diarra, to discuss IRU’s contribution to implementing the Almaty Programme of Action, notably, the IRU’s latest initiatives presented on 10 February 2012 during the preparatory meeting for the 10 Year Review Conference.

The UN side praised IRU’s activities to promote and further facilitate trade and international road transport and invited the IRU to play a more active role in the activities of the UN’s regional commissions worldwide as well as the UN Headquarters in New York. Both sides agreed to reinforce their cooperation in preparation of the 10 Year Review Conference of the Almaty Programme of Action.
