Objective Reduce the number of accidents involving commercial vehicles to: Improve general road safety for all road users; Relieve the physical and mental suffering caused to accident victims and their families; Improve the image of road transport in order to gain political support from decision-makers and avoid inefficient political measures which are costly for the industry; Improve road transport output.

Working Programme

• On the basis of reliable data, promote measures that effectively reduce accidents involving commercial road vehicles;
• Promote better sharing of roads and improve the driving behaviour of all road users, both professional and non-professional, by means of training and educational programmes which meet internationally recognised standards;
• Contribute to and promote the training programmes and activities of the IRU Academy;
• Organise or participate in awareness, advocacy and communication campaigns in favour of road safety launched at international, national and industry level;
• Cooperate with the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the UN Road Safety Collaboration (UNRSC);
• Participate in the work of the UNECE Working Party on Road Traffic Safety.
