IRU Commission on Road Safety

The Commission on Road Safety (CSR) strives to reduce the number of accidents involving commercial vehicles through the dissemination of best practices, scientific studies, data collection and policy recommendations.

Objective

Reduce the number of accidents involving commercial vehicles to:

  • Improve general road safety for all road users;
  • Relieve the physical and mental suffering caused to accident victims and their families;
  • Improve the image of road transport in order to gain political support from decision-makers and avoid inefficient political measures which are costly for the industry;
  • Improve road transport output.


Working Programme

  • On the basis of reliable data, promote measures that effectively reduce accidents involving commercial road vehicles;
  • Promote better sharing of roads and improve the driving behaviour of all road users, both professional and non-professional, by means of training and educational programmes which meet internationally recognised standards;
  • Contribute to and promote the training programmes and activities of the IRU Academy;
  • Organise or participate in awareness, advocacy and communication campaigns in favour of road safety launched at international, national and industry level;
  • Cooperate with the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the UN Road Safety Collaboration (UNRSC);
  • Participate in the work of the UNECE Working Party on Road Traffic Safety.
